Is motivation a skill?
Motivation is indeed a skill and actually, you are motivated all of the time.
Think of the last meeting you attended. Aware of it or not, you went into it with certain feelings and beliefs – your outlook. This decided the direction of motivation you chose.
Your outlook either motivated you to actively participate or to tune out altogether. Thus, the real question is not “if” you are motivated but “why.” Here is where the magic happens. The true nature of motivation is that we can learn to choose and create the intentions behind it; positive or negative.
Let’s say you chose positive intentions going into the meeting. You went into the meeting motivated to actively participate, you learned something new – even helped a peer learn something new.
Now let’s reverse those intentions. You went into the meeting motivated to disconnect from the conversation, you were close minded – even disruptive of other’s learning experience.
Which scenario was more beneficial to you; to others? Hopefully you are connecting the dots. A positive outlook leads to positive intentions, leads to positive motivation, leads to positive results.
Motivation is a skill and just like any other skill; it can be learned. The real power is not in being motivated but in “why” we are motivated. I challenge you to learn to choose and create optimal outlooks and intentions.

Best Places to Work in PA 2015
JFC Staffing Companies named one of the Best Places to Work in PA for 2015. The awards program, created in 2000, is one of the first statewide programs of its kind in the country. The program is a public/private partnership between Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Central Penn Business Journal.
“Our work family and culture mean everything to us. Without our people there would be no company.” James M. Carchidi, CEO
This survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania, who are benefiting the state’s economy and its workforce. Employers are categorized based upon the total number of employees they have in the United States, 25 to 249 employees and 250 or more employees.
Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the 100 Best Places to Work in PA. The first part of this process was evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process.
JFC Staffing Companies will be recognized at the Best Places to Work in PA awards banquet on Thursday, December 3, 2015, at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, PA. Rankings will be revealed at the ceremony. Tickets may be purchased online at www.CPBJ.com/events.

Is Job Tenure a Thing of the Past?
It’s safe to say that workforce trends have shifted over the past decade and especially after the last recession. Today there seems to be more of a self-oriented nature to the workforce and, along with it, job-hopping. Ryan Kahn, a career coach and founder of The Hired Group, says that “job hopping is replacing the concept of climbing the corporate ladder.”
Let’s look at the numbers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average number of years that young employees (ages 20-34) have been with their current employer is 2.3 years.

Are your beginnings really endings in disguise?
Do you start your day with negative or stressful thoughts? Oh it’s raining again, I do not want to have that meeting today, and on and on…
When you focus your attention on the negative you prevent yourself from observing the many possibilities around you. A negative mindset is self-fulfilling but so too is a positive mindset. Why not choose the latter?
Beginnings are important. The way you begin your day often predicts the level of success that follows. This is especially true for what you tell yourself about the given realities of your day.
A simple way to rewire your thought process is to look for positive moments from your previous day in which your behavior influenced a better outcome. Such positive reflection fuels better performance; it reorients the brain toward things that help create a better reality.
Everything you are exposed to will influence your behavior. Social psychology refers to this as priming. It often occurs without you even noticing what is going on.
One example is watching the news. All the sensational negative charged stories will surely prime your mind to be negative. So why start your morning watching the news? Rather, begin each day reflecting on the good and positive possibilities that lie ahead. Doing so will reinforce an optimistic mindset and change your behavior for the better.
Each morning is a gift. Never go into a new day with pessimistic thoughts.

Social Media: Addiction of the 21st Century
Ping, pang, beep – instant notifications that someone liked, forwarded, or shared my post tweet, etc.
When you sit back and observe people, whether it is at work, at the grocery store, or a group event; you can’t help but notice all the people constantly checking their mobile devices.
Why?
It’s often one of the first thing we do in the morning and the last we do before bedtime. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google+, and on and on…
No joke, there are now apps to manage all your apps.
Admittedly I too am a repeat offender; posting and checking my personal and professional social media profiles. But when, or where, is the tipping point? How much is too much?
I’m interested to hear your approach to leveraging social media and all its apps. Please tell us how you control them rather than be controlled by them.
Let the mind-sharing begin…
Hi! How have you been? How’s work?
More often than not people answer with, “Busy.”
Busy does not equal productive. Busy does not equal success. Far too many of us have become imprisoned by the whirlwind of our work. Believing busy is being productive is a domino effect; once this mindset starts it builds and builds until we can no longer see the light at the end of the tunnel.
It is amazingly easy to lose sight of the important things. Just take a minute to hit pause and look around you. Everyone seems busy these days – running to and from. Yet how many of them are really producing results? How many of them are advancing the ball and succeeding? Not too many.
Achievement does not necessarily come from activity alone. Rather it is more likely a result of focused activity, doing the right things at the right time. Speaking of time, this is our most precious gift and once it is gone it may never be gotten back. Use it wisely.
Make sure that your time is dedicated to tasks that get results. Success is not a product of our time but rather our output. If you give 100% to the wrong actions, you will be no better off than before you started. Work smart, not hard; holds truth. Focus on the smart activities, which will get you results, and then work hard on those activities.
The next time someone asks you, “How have you been?” or “How is work?” – try not to answer, “Busy.” Create a more meaningful answer and you will soon get more meaningful results.
Start today what you should have started yesterday!

What is your WHY at work?
Here at the JFC Staffing Companies, we absolutely know WHY we come to work each day!
Have you seen the social media posts spotlighting JFC team members professing WHY they love their career with the JFC work family? Here is a sample of the amazing stories.
“A candidate with a young family wanted to move closer to extended family. When we sent him to an interview, he did his research, impressed them, and got the job for a large increase in pay! When we took him to lunch to celebrate, he told of how his wife’s health battles coupled with a job loss and a new baby made for a stressful situation. He managed to stay positive through it all and is now excited to spend the rest of his career at our client!!!” – JFC Global Recruiter
“It is extremely rewarding to know that you assisted someone in taking their next career move, and at the same time knowing you helped a company needing someone with their talent. It is one of the few win-win situations that you have in life and I get to help make that happen every single day.” – JFC Skilled Trades Recruiter
It’s no wonder the vast majority of U.S. workers (70 percent) are not engaged at work, according to Gallup’s State of the American Workplace Report. Simply put, too many employers are doing “business as usual.” I say, wake up and evolve with the times! It’s not that companies need pool tables, nap rooms, and Google-like amenities. Instead, try inspiring and leading your people in meaningful ways.
Do you know the number one reason for customer defection is caused by something that every company has complete control over? According to the U.S. Small Business Administration and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 68% of customers leave because of the treatment they’ve received.
With more than 85 percent of our clients indicating they would be extremely likely to recommend JFC to a friend or colleague, we have been named to Inavero’s 2014 Best of Staffing™ Client Satisfaction list for a third consecutive year. Presented in partnership with CareerBuilder, the Best of Staffing list provides the only statistically valid, objective, service quality benchmarks in the industry.
“The 2014 Best of Staffing Award was earned by less than 2% of the more than 12,000 staffing firms in the U.S. and Canada. In an era of scarce qualified talent, hard to fill positions, and ever-increasing expectations, these agencies have proven they have what it takes to deliver exceptional service to both clients and job candidates.” Inavero Founder and CEO, Eric Gregg.
Professional Development: Emotional Programming: Conversational Capacity
Conversational capacity is the skill of having balance in dialogue, and most especially when under pressure. A seemingly essential concept yet one largely overlooked if not totally ignored.
It should come as no surprise that we are hardwired to treat our views and opinions as truth. It is part of our emotional programming. In a conversation, when someone has a differing point of view, we instinctively default back on our primal predispositions of fight-or-flight.
These predispositions often hijack the conversation; triggering us to avoid or win on the issue.
If we want to be more aware of the impact these tendencies have on us, we must pay closer attention to how we react in difficult conversations.
Let’s be clear, it is no easy task to resist the gravitational pull of these programmed responses. It takes practice to instinctually set aside our tendencies and seek a higher set of objectives. The hallmark objective is to move from unconsciousness, to awareness, to a guiding mindset where we manage these primal behaviors. Only then can we ensure balanced conversations with positive end results.
Given the pivotal impact this has on relationships, teams, and organizations; it’s a mystery why the subject gets so little attention and training. Treating dialogue as a discipline is a much needed skill in today’s day and age. After all, do you want to participate in conversations in a way that leads to informed choice or willful ignorance?

Where are you today and where will you be tomorrow?
“The greatest step to tomorrow’s success is today’s success.” – John C. Maxwell
It’s easy for us to get lost in the day, week and even the month. As you go into the second half of 2015, consciously set aside time for professional self-reflection. This is when you specifically focus on questions about your goals, your behavior, and your general mindset.
Think about the meaning behind this simple message and ask yourself some meaningful questions.
- How have I pushed myself to grow, learn, and add to who I am?
- How will I push myself to grow, learn, and add to who I am?
- How have I worked towards making a difference in my life and in the lives of others? How will I work towards making a difference in my life and in the lives of others?
- How have I created success for myself, my customers, and my team?
Think about the professional milestones you’ve set for the y
ear, where you presently are today and where you wish to be tomorrow (next week, month, quarter, and year-end). I promise that this exercise in introspection will lead you down a preferred path.
You have the greatest influence over your own destiny. You have huge potential in developing skills in communication, critical thinking, self-learning, self-awareness, empathy, and drive. Don’t leave your professional success and growth up to chance.
How will I create success for myself, my customers, and my team?
